This books is especially for people who like adventures and it shows you what some families from eastern countries have to do to survive.
If you like this one you are going to like "Girl Underground" as well. Bridget is the daughter of two criminals who has to rescue Jamal and Bibi from a refugee camp. She is forced to do this because Menzie, a friend from school shows her some letters that he has received from Jamal and Bibi that make Bridget think about what they are suffering.

Horrible Grannies

Yesterday during 8Y library lesson two students recommended "Granny" by Anthony Horowitz and we ended up talking about grannies in children's books. There are lots of them with wonderful grannies like "The Witches", "Lizzy Zipmouth","Double Act", in fact I am now reading one of the new books, it is called"I am a cloud and I can blow anywhere", It is about an african girl and her granny is one of the main characters. I am really enjoying it. You can listen to an extract clicking here.

Then we were trying to think about books with wicked grannies and we came out with three excellent ones, "Granny", "Grinny" and "George's Marvellous medicine"

Today is the premier of a movie called "La Ola".This movie directed by Dennis Gansel, is based in a book by Tod Strasser titled "The Wave". The novel is based on teaching experiment that took place in a Cubberley High School history class in Palo Alto (California). This book is suitable for students in year 9 and upwards. Do you know the famous artist called Edgar Degas? Well, this book is about a girl who posed for his famous statuette "Little dancer. Aged 14". You can actually go and see the statuette because there is an exhibition on Degas in Fundacion Mapfre in Madrid. The book tells the story of Marie, a girl whose father is dead and her mother is alcoholic. Her big sister is always looking for money and she has to take care of her little sister aged 8. She has a very difficult life and the only thing she really enjoys is dancing. When the painter asks her to pose for him, it appears that her life will be transformed. But can being Monsieur Degas's model bring all that she imagines?

Hugo lives in the walls of a Paris train station, where his survival depends on being anonymous. But when his life suddenly collides with an eccentric girl and the owner of a small toy booth in the train station, Hugo’s secret live, and his most precious secret, are put in danger. A strange drawing, a treasured notebook, a stolen key, a mechanical man, and a hidden message all come together.
I liked a lot this book because it was a little bit of mystery but addictive at the same time. It’s easy to read and easy to understand, there’s not much difficult vocabulary and you have lovely illustrations to help you understand. These lovely illustrations take about half of the book so even if you find it really thick, it will take just two or three afternoons to read.

Ruby Holler by Sharon Creech

The "trouble twins", Dallas and Florida, are living in The Boxton Creek Home, an orphanage run by Mr. and Mrs. Trepid. The Trepids are strict and “putrid”, and Dallas and Florida are punished more than any other children for breaking the rules of the house. They are thirteen years old and in all of this time the twins have been adopted many times, invariably by incomprehensive and abusive adults who return them to the orphanage. One day, an old couple adopts the twins for a summer, they live in Ruby Holler. Their names are Tiller and Sairy. They want them as companions for their separate vacations: Florida for Tiller's boat trip down the Rutabago River; Dallas for Sairy's bird expedition to the island of Kangadoon. This will be the first time either of the couples have been separated.
I liked this book because it was strange the way the author tells the story, I think this book is not made for people who like fantasy or realistics books because, in my opinion, this book was made for everyone. It is an enjoyable and pleasant book to read whenever you have time.
