Spiderwick Chronicles

There are three children called Jared who is nine, his twin Simon and Mallory who is thirteen. They all have different characteristics, Jared is naughty, they would have expelled him from school but he was going anyway. Simon is an organised person, he also loves animals. Mallory is very bossy. After their parents´ separation, they moved house with their mum. Their new house is in the countryside. At night they heard noises. Jared thought they were ghosts. They went to investigate. They found a note:
In man’s torso you will find
My secret to all mankind
If false and true can be the same
You will soon know of my fame
Up and up and up again
Good luck dear friend.
After these strange things happened. Mallory’s hair was tied to the bed!
But if Simon and Jared were innocent... who did it then???
I would recommend this book to anyone who likes adventure, girls and boys. They have put lots of imagination on it. There are lots of fantastic characters in this story, each with different features which make them interesting. This book is of adventure and mystery but most of all magic.

Bad Beginning by Lemony Snicket

This book is about three children: Klaus, Sunny and Violet Baudelaire.Their parents had died in fire which has destroyed their mansion and all their possessions. They were living with Mr.Poe, and his wife Polly, sharing a room with their ill-behaved children Edgard and Albert. Mr.Poe locates a distant cousin called Count Olaf, he is a very bad person. All their miserable life starts then.
In some ways I did like this book, but it is a little bit sad. Both boys and girls can read it. I think this book has adventure, and, once you are reading it you wont be able do put it down, it encourages you to read more and more. This book holds your attention. I think it is a very interesting book.

How to get fabulously rich by Thomas Rockwell

Billy is sure he can come up with the right numbers to win the lottery. He knows exactly what he's going to do with the prize. But, when he wins, everybody wants some money. Everyone is very strange around him. Billy thinks he might need to split the money. His friend, Joe, starts bullying about it, so does his friends. Billy must come up with the right idea, to solve this problem. I recommend this book, because it’s a mixture of humour and comedy. As well, you have a good time. Its funny to know how Billy’s day to day is, with its dream of having millions, and his ideas of how things are. By Pedro 7Z

The worry website by Jacqueline Wilson

The worry website is a nice book for girls AND boys. There are many worries but the one I liked most was the first one. It´s about a girl who wants a wicked stepmother. But the problem is his father has a girlfriend a very nice one and she doesn´t treat her bad at all.
My other recomendation is The Penderwicks. I loved this book it´s about a family who goes on vacations. It´s all about their adventures and their problems. I gave it a 11 because it´s the best book I´ve ever read

The Penderwicks by Jeanne Birdsall

This book called The Penderwicks. It is an entertaining and wonderful book. The book is about a family which goes for vacation to a place. They have a neighbour who is a horrible woman who starts making the Penderwicks' life imposible. The woman is called Mrs.Tifton. Mrs.Tifton has a son who makes friends with the Penderwicks sisters. All together they have marvellous times, adventures, and most of all problems... Mrs.Tifton tries to break their relation because she thinks she is going to lose his son.
When I read this book I learned that it doesn´t matter what other people think about you, what matters is the real person that you are. Read this book and you will find lots of entertainig chapters that will lead you to another world where you will enjoy so much that you will not want to leave. You will be astonished when you see how cleverly the Penderwicks sisters solve their numerous problems.
You can find some information of the Penderwicks by going to google and adding Penderwicks and then selecting the page called Jeane Birdsall that is the athour. Have fun reading the Penderwicks books. Relax reading the Penderwicks books.

And most of all ENJOY reading them!!!!!!!!

Rosalind, Skye, Jane and Batty Penderwick went on holiday to Arundel, a small and beautiful village. When they arrived to the cottage (their father had rented for three weeks), they arranged their rooms. Minutes later Skye was going for a walk when she saw Arundel Hall (the most beautiful mansion ever seen by the Penderwicks) and she decided to go inside it. She tried to go inside, she saw a hole in the ground and she went through it to the Arundel Hall garden. When she was passing through the hole to go back home, she crushed her head into a boy's head. They introduced each other after the confusing crush. The boy was called Jeffry. They had heart his mother calling him, the cruel Mrs Tifton. Soon Jeffry became really good friend of the Penderwicks and they had lots of problems with his mother.
This book is mostly for girls who like reading books about people's lives. You have to read it because is a fantastic and surprising book that you will enjoy. I hope you read it!

Percy Jackson

The Percy Jackson series is fantastic. Action packed, with every type of monster you could think of.
Have you ever heard about the Greek gods, well in this series they are real, and they are fighting against Kronos, lord of time. The main character is a demigod, this means his dad is a god and his mum is mortal. Our hero's dad is Poseidon, you can imagine what's this: control water, talk with horses...
The series is formed by five books, in each one Percy has to do the same things heroes did, but in his own special way.
I recommend this book specially for fantasy lovers, but in fact everyone who likes reading can read this series. And trust me, you won't regret it.

The great automatic Grammatizator by Roald Dahl

There are too many books to choose a favourite from. Although one of my favourites would probably be “The Great automatic grammatizator”, by Roald Dahl. This book is a wonderful collection of exciting short stories. I really enjoyed reading them. My favourite story from the book “The Great Automatic Grammatizator” is 'Vengeance is Mine Inc.' I liked this story because it is very funny and interesting. Although it is a bit strange I though it got the readers' attention very easily because of its' plot. All of the stories were good, but some were better than others.

Leaving mothers

TheseChristmas holidays I read two quite sad books about mothers leaving home. The first one was Hugging the Rock by Susan Taylor Browns. It is a verse novel about Rachel's feelings when her mother left home and she was left alone with her laconic father. It is a beautiful and moving story. I found a web page with videos made by children presenting this book, Have a look!
The second one is Life on the refrigerator door by Alice Kuipers. This story is told by the notes between a daughter and her mother left on the fridge door. The girl in this book is a bit older , around 14, and the mother is an extremely busy doctor who has breast cancer... To be honest I didn't like this one as much as the other , but it is becoming very popular and difficult to find on the library shelves. Read it and judge yourself...

Two short books reviews by Miss Bentley

In the nick of Time by Robert Swindells.
Quite an enjoyable read. Story which recreates a different kind of school in the 1950’s and a nice twist where two people re-find each other through time. Easy reading.

Refugee Boy – Benjamin Zephaniah
Ok but a little bit tiresome. Zephaniah seems to have got carried away trying to teach us about refugees and to have forgotten that his first duty is to create a believable story with 3 dimensional characters. OK, informative but a bit irritating. I wonder whether you agree with me? Send a comment if you've read it.
